The taxonomy, distribution, ecology and cultivation requirements of the widespread eastern Asiatic Adenophora triphylla (Thunb. ex Murray) A.DC. (Campanulaceae) are discussed. There is a full description of the species and its two varieties, var. triphylla and var. japonica (Regel) Hara, and a colour plate of the latter.
