We present a method for the rapid and controllable simulationof the shattering of brittle objects under impact. Anobject to be broken is represented as a set of point massesconnected by distance-preserving linear constraints. Thisuse of constraints, rather than stiff springs, gains us a significantadvantage in speed while still retaining fine controlover the fracturing behavior.
