Cover image: Map showing the 3700 km North‐South Transect of Eastern China (NSTEC). China is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world and this research transect spans the tropics to boreal zones. The authors of the papers included in this Special Focus collected comprehensive datasets from sites along the transect to answer important ecological questions, looking at variation in functional traits, patterns of diversity, ecological interactions and ecosystem functioning.
