This article offers a discussion of the utility of using case law in the classroom as a means to teach more effectively key issues relating to peace/antiwar activism in American society in the twentieth century. An important area of discussion includes the evolution of “conscientious objection” during World War I, World War II, and the Vietnam War. Resistance to the draft and the overall militarization of American society can also be traced through a study of court cases. The author recommends developing classroom plays as a device to bring pivotal cases to life for students.
