A theoretical model for describing a direct image to ground relationship for slant range images extracted from synthetic aperture radar imaging satellites (for instance ERS‐1 and ERS‐2) is formulated. The rigorous orbital model is based on orbital parameters. Transformations and equations describing the relationship are derived.
