Optofluidics experienced significant developments in the past few years and is still proving to be a dynamic field of research with a particular focus on biological and chemical sensing applications. This paper reviews a selection of 2011 achievements concerning different aspects of the on-chip integration of photonics and microfluidics and, in particular, highlighting how the versatility and simple reconfigurability of the optofluidic approach can represent an added value in biophotonic applications.
