This paper investigates two schemes for improving interference cancellation (IC) in in-band full-duplex (IBFD) in-home broadband power line communication (BB-PLC) systems. A key challenge in existing IC techniques is the diminished performance caused by the interaction between the signal-of-interest and self-interference (SI), a critical issue often overlooked in previous studies. This interaction can severely impair system efficiency, especially in scenarios demanding high throughput. Unlike conventional approaches that depend on half-duplex mode for channel estimation or suffer from slow convergence rates in adapting the filters’ coefficients, the proposed schemes enable joint SI and PLC channel estimation while performing IC in full-duplex mode during a dedicated training period. These schemes leverage robust algorithms to enhance adaptability and performance. Theoretical and numerical analyses demonstrate that the proposed schemes are not only effective in reducing the SI to the noise floor but also flexible to diverse channel and noise conditions. This makes them interesting candidates for practical deployment in IBFD BB-PLC systems.
