This paper proposed a folded transmitarray antenna for high-intensity radiation fields (HIRF) protection, which can adaptively change gain based on the intensity of the incident electromagnetic field. When the field intensity is low, the antenna has a phase compensation function to achieve high-gain characteristics of the antenna and receives electromagnetic waves with low loss. In HIRF, the antenna removes its phase compensation and reflects the incident electromagnetic wave, which reduces the receiving efficiency of electromagnetic waves and achieves protection for HIRF. After simulation and measurement, with a low-intensity incident wave, the antenna’s gain is over 20 dBi in the central frequency. In HIRF, the antenna can remove the gain of transmitarray, causing the antenna’s gain to decrease to the level of the antenna feed about 7 dBi. This paper provides a new perspective on antenna design by integrating electromagnetic protection mechanisms into the antenna structure, and proposes an antenna that can adapt to HIRF and protect backend electronic devices.
