Understanding how the naming scheme applies in Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is critical for enhancing the user’s Quality of Service (QoS) during information retrieval. However, until now, no study has comprehensively investigated the influence of naming schemes in various topologies to improve information retrieval in ICN. This paper systematically analyzes, designs, and implements various naming schemes to enhance and optimize information retrieval. Various known naming schemes are simulated under different challenging conditions and topologies, such as congestion, delays, and mobility environments, to validate the effectiveness of each of the naming schemes in ICN. The experiments are simulated multiple times for each naming scheme to understand their specific properties, features, advantages, and disadvantages. The simulation results confirm the merit of the proposed Intelligent Prefix Information Retrieval naming scheme in enduring various topologies and highlight ways to achieve better data rates, higher success rates, lower delays, and reduced total traffic in the network.
