A novel nitride, Sr 2− y Eu y B 2−2 x Si 2+3 x Al 2− x N 8+ x ( x ≃ 0.12, y ≃ 0.10) (distrontium europium diboron disilicon dialuminium octanitride), with the space group P 2 c , was synthesized from Sr 3 N 2 , EuN, Si 3 N 4 , AlN and BN under nitrogen gas pressure. The structure consists of a host framework with Sr/Eu atoms accommodated in the cavities. The host framework is constructed by the linkage of M N 4 tetrahedra ( M = Si, Al) and BN 3 triangles, and contains substitutional disorder described by the alternative occupation of B 2 or Si 2 N on the (0, 0, z ) axis. The B 2 :Si 2 N ratio contained in an entire crystal is about 9:1.
