The title compound, C 28 H 20 N 4 O 4 , is an organic pigment. The molecule has C i symmetry. Accordingly, the pyridylethyl groups are arranged in a trans fashion across the naphthaleneimide skeleton. The interplanar distance between the two aromatic systems is 12.846 (2) Å and this clearly indicates a lack of π–πinteractions, as also shown by similar spectra in solution and in the solid state.
