A procedure is proposed for dealing with superimposed powder reflections. Combination of the available diffraction data with prior knowledge is treated by a probability method. The transfer of electron microscopy information to neutron diffraction data is considered in particular. The method has been tested with a model of bacteriorhodopsin.
