The spacing distribution of paracrystalline material can be represented by a system of frequency curves. Plotting the central‐moment ratios to rectangular axes provides a composite representation for the characterization of pseudoperiodic material. Two complementary methods are reported for computing spacing variances, from which an estimation of the degree of disorder is obtained. Paracrystalline analysis was applied to the Z‐line spacing in relaxed and contracted leg skeletal muscle and in neostigmine‐treated rat extensior digitorum Iongus muscle, and to the distribution of acetylcholine receptors along junctional fold crest of rat extensor digitorum longus muscle.
