Upon irradiation with a Nd‐glass laser SHG has been found in a series of structurally closely related compounds of cubic ( F 3 m ) or monoclinic ( Cc ) symmetry with the following cell contents: Cd 16 Si 4 S 24 ( Cc ), Cd 16 Ge 4 S 24 ( Cc ), Cd 14 P 4 S 24 ( Cc ), Cd 13 P 4 S 22 I 2 ( Cc ), Cd 13 P 4 S 22 I 2 ( F 3 m ) and Cu 24 P 4 S 20 Br 4 ( F 3 m ). The highest effect – comparable with that of LiNbO 3 – was noted in Cd 13 P 4 S 22 I 2 ( Cc ). All measurements were performed on powders.
