The sign of the total pyroelectric coefficient, p 3 , of LiIO 3 has been related to the known [Morosin, 1972. Private communication quoted as Ref. 25 of Bergman, J. G. & Crane, G. R. (1974). J. Chem. Phys . 60 , 2470–2474] absolute configuration by use of a model of Liminga & Abrahams [ J. Appl. Cryst. (1976). 9, 42–47]. It has been experimentally verified to be positive (piezoelectric convention) as predicted.
