An X‐ray cryostat suitable for single‐crystal diffraction is described. It can be used in the range 10 K–300 K. The temperature may be easily and quickly stabilized. The sample temperature stability is better than 0.1 K all over the range. The crystal is mounted on a goniometer head, adjustable at any temperature from the outside top of the cryostat. The crystal is cooled either by gas flow or by conduction throughout the goniometer head.
