A neutron monochromator built by stacking elastically curved ideal germanium crystals is examined. The radius of curvature of the crystals was 566 + 5 cm. The measured reflectivity, for a 220 reflexion, was in the region of 60 % for neutrons with wavelengths of 1 to 2 Å. It is shown that the momentum resolution depends in a simple way on the thickness of the monochromator, which was up to 7.2 mm.
