A new method for the phase control in an optical diffractometer is described. A photographic negative of the weighted reciprocal net is used as the mask of the diffractometer. The phase of each reciprocal point is represented by the shift of the position in the reciprocal plane. Although this method cannot reproduce the periodic image of a crystal, it is particularly suitable for reconstructing the image of a molecule in a crystal.
