The symmetry of the structure of the as‐quenched ω phase, which is formed during the decomposition of b.c.c. (β) solid solutions in Zr and Ti‐base alloys, was shown to change from sixfold to threefold with increasing solute content. These observations indicate that as the undercooling beneath the M s curve for the β→ω transformation decreases, the magnitude of the displacement of the atoms away from their b.c.c. positions during the transformation also decreases.
