The effect of varying ageing times and temperature on the halo (from GP zones) and the streaks (from the precipitation of a new phase) in small‐angle X‐ray patterns for an Al–5 at. % Ag–5 at. % Zn alloy has been studied. From the short incubation period before the appearance of the streaks it has been deduced that metastable precipitates form more rapidly in on Al–Ag–Zn alloy than in an Al–Ag alloy with equal Ag content.
