The diffuse X‐ray scattering from single crystals of 36:64 and 50:50 KCl–KBr solid solutions has been studied. The analysis of the results, which follows the method described by Borie, is based on the approximation of a solid solution Cl − –Br − . The observed values of the distortion constant for the chloride ion are 2–3 times greater than those calculated on the basis of the conventional values of ionic radii.
