The kinetic-energy distribution of D+ fragments obtained from the ionization of D2 molecules with intense 20-fs pulses includes a high-energy component extending up to ?10 eV. These fragments are only present for linearly, or slightly elliptically, polarized light. Both the maximum kinetic-energy and the ellipticity dependence are consistent with nonsequential double ionization caused by recollision.Peer reviewed: YesNRC publication: Ye
