In the present paper, which is a continuation of a former one which has already been submitted to the Royal Society and has been published in the “roceedings,” an attempt is made to ascertain whether liquation occurs in alloys of the rarer metals, notably in those of platinum, with palladium, and with rhodium, and of gold with aluminium. In the paper communicated to the Royal Society in 1890 upon this subject, I stated that ninety parts of fine gold melted with ten parts of pure platinum, and cast into a spherical mould showed a liquation of the platinum to the centre of the sphere, as shown in Diagram C in that paper.
