Catatonia is a motor and mood disorder of behavior increasingly recognized in systemic medically ill. Neuroleptic malignant syndrome, delirious mania, self injurious behaviors in autism, and limbic encephalitis are conditions in which ECT-responsive catatonia is increasingly recognized and effectively treated.
