A case report of a retrieved etched screw implant 3 weeks after implant placement is presented. The implant was rinsed and placed in formalin solution and sent to the lab for scanning electron microscope qualitative analysis of the surface coating. Bone fragments and bone matrix could be observed on the etched surface. However, they were not present on the machined portion of the implant.
