Is there a way for parents to get their children to eat their vegetables without the yelling and ultimatums? We report novel and insightful methods used by experts to successfully encourage vegetable consumption among US children. Researchers conducted interviews with 78 inside sources (experts in promoting vegetable consumption in children, such as daycare workers, cafeteria managers, and teachers) and categorized their favorite techniques into five groups: choice (15%), modeling (15%), consumption norms (15%), meal planning and preparation (23%), and games (31%). One novel insight involves role‐play and make‐believe worlds during mealtime to engage, entice, and evolve children. Make mealtime both fun and functional by applying these five types of tactics.
