The 478 pages of the in folio , gross‐anatomy book of Du Laurens contained 27 copper‐engraved plates with 1 to 13 figures in each one. We studied the sample (Francfort, Bekker, 1627) of the National Academy of Medicine in Paris (D684) and compared it to two other samples (one = 1600) of the Alain Brieux Scientific Library, Paris 6th. The drawings were very similar between the three editions, and were inspired by Vesalius (1543) and also by Valverde. However they had a good originality by their own and the knowledge had advanced at the time of du Laurens (1558–1609), an ordinary physician and counselor of Henri IV of France who was initially Professor of Medicine in Montpellier.
