It is generally recognized that Alzheimer's disease (AD) is devastating for the individual, the family and the country from clinical, social and financial vantage points. AD is characterized by the accumulation and deposition of beta‐amyloid within the brain, leading to irreversible neurological damage. Even though the causes of AD still remain unknown, the demand for the treatment is increasing. Since then many researches have been conducted on this issue and its treatment. Herein, we review current research and development status of drug discovery in AD, and discuss the trend of patenting activities.
