Nutraceutical compounds derived from food industry wastes as a source of natural phenolics are in great demand as a food supplement due to its antioxidant and anticarcinogenic effects. This study aimed to determine content and profile of phenoilc compounds, antioxidant and anticancer effects of some food industry wastes.Methanolic extracts of artichoke bracts ( Cynara cardunculus) (AB), date palm raceme ( Phoenix dactylifera ) (DPR), Prickly pear peel ( Opuntiaficus‐indica ) (PPP), Peanut (Arachishypogaea L ) skin (PS) and shell (PSH) and empty pea pods ( Pisumsativum L) (EPP) were prepared. Phenolic content was assayed by Folin‐Ciocalteau reagent. Phenolic profile was identified by LCMSMS and GC MS. Antioxidant activity was measured by DPPH assay whereas in vitro antioxidant effects were assayed on HepG2 cells by measuring SOD and GPx activities. Anticancer activity was determined by detecting the viability of HepG2 cells by MTT assay. Our data demonstrated that a major phenolics were p – Coumaric acid in PS, alpha‐Tocopherol in DPR, rutin in PPP, luteolin in PSH and myrecetin in EPP whereas a variety of phenolic acids were detected in AB. The highest IC 50 for free radical scavenging activity was detected in DPR (21.7 μg/ml). The antiproliferation effect on HepG2 cells was only detected with DPR, PPP and EPP. DPR induced the highest enzyme activity for SOD and GPX. Our study give more interest to investigate the effect ofphenolics of some Egyptian food industry wasteespecially DPR as protective supplement in our diet against disease caused by oxidative stress specially cancer.
