Aerobic exercise training decreased oxidative stress in aged females rats after ovarian hormones deprivation (706.11)

The objective was to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise training on parameters of oxidative stress profile in aged females rats after ovarian hormones deprivation. Female aged ovariectomized Wistar rats (~18 wks of age) were divided into 2 groups (n=8/each) sedentary (OVXs) and trained group (OVXt). The exercise training was performed on a treadmill (8wks, 60% VO2 max). Oxidative profile was evaluated by membranes lipoperoxidation by thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBA), chemiluminescence (CL) and antioxidants enzymes: catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in cardiac, muscle and renal tissues. The redox state was performed in the heart. The TBA and CL were reduced in muscle and in the cardiac tissue (101% and 68%; 46% and 93%, respectively) in OVXt group in relation to OVXs group. The levels of CAT, SOD were higher in OVXt than OVXs group in renal tissue. GPx was higher in cardiac, renal and muscle tissues in OVXt group in relation to OVXs group. The redox state was higher in OVXt (5.4±0.34 mmol/g tissue) than OVXs (2.94±0.52 mmol/g tissue) group. These results suggest a beneficial role of exercise training in oxidative stress profile in different tissues in aged rats after ovarian hormone deprivation.
