Interested in leadership, education, and teaching? There are ways to move into such roles without pursuing the traditional tenure track. Now Assistant Dean of Career & Professional Development at UMass Medical School, Dr. Fuhrmann will describe her journey from PhD in Biochemistry to educator and administrator in the Graduate Dean's office. Her career experiences have included development of grant‐funded educational programs, teaching, and peer‐reviewed educational research. She has been active at the national level, as co‐author of the AAAS/ScienceCareers website “myIDP” and a frequent presenter at conferences and universities. In the last part of her talk, Dr. Fuhrmann will share tips for how to prepare for a variety of scientific careers‐‐whether a path in academic research, academic administration, or research/non‐research careers beyond academe.
