One recommendation of the 2011 report, Vision and Change in Undergraduate Biology Education, was to create a peer‐reviewed repository of student‐centered teaching resources. HHMI has sponsored development of CourseSource, which: (1) Applies the current understanding of how people learn; (2) Organizes activities and assessments into courses, with learning outcomes determined by corresponding professional societies; (3) Is easily navigable and searchable by instructors; (4) Acknowledges different levels of understanding (i.e. Bloom's Taxonomy) and modalities; and (5) Provides authors with the opportunity to publish teaching materials in a high‐quality, open access format suitable for documentation of educational scholarship. To date, we have incorporated learning objective frameworks for cell biology from ASCB, genetics from GSA, plant biology from ASPB and BSA, developmental biology from SDB, and microbiology from ASM. Framework development continues through 2013, along with solicitation of instructional materials for review. The site will go live to the public in January 2014.
