The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting skipping breakfast for nutrition education related to skipping breakfast in Korean middle school students. The subjects were 618 middle school students (7 th grade 223, 8 th grade 201, 9 th grade 194) in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. A cross‐sectional survey was conducted using a questionnaire and data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program. As the results from logistic regression, the factors significantly associated with skipping breakfast were attitude of parents toward skipping breakfast (p<0.001), awareness about importance of breakfast (p<0.001), necessity of breakfast for health (p<0.001) and concentration on class (p<0.05). As for the attitude of parents toward breakfast skipping, the students had more breakfast as their parents forced them to have breakfast. The students had more breakfast as they knew importance of breakfast or necessity of breakfast for health. Also the students had more breakfast as they knew that they concentrated their attention less on class when they skipped breakfast. There were no significant association between skipping breakfast and wake‐up hour, socio‐demographic factors including gender, education levels and economic status of parents. Therefore, nutrition education about breakfast should be provided toward their parents as well as Korean middle school students.
