The National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsors basic research and the development of human capital across all disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The agency is committed to identifying and developing talent in all demographics through coordinated and sustained programmatic efforts and innovation in instruction, curriculum, and learning opportunities. As the content, nature, and practice of science are transformed by new global challenges, big data, and interdisciplinarity, the NSF seeks to transform the STEM learning of tomorrow's scientists and citizens. I will describe key investment strategies by the agency to achieve this objective, with examples from funded projects, and explore new opportunities that can be leveraged to build an innovative and supportive learning ecosystem that is aligned with technological and social changes.
