Preschool children consume more than the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation of 4–6 oz of 100% fruit juice (FJ) per day. This study analyzed the association of food security and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) status with home availability and child consumption of FJ. Caregivers of 3–5 y old children (n=462) provided demographics and child consumption quantity and completed the USDA food security module and a home beverage inventory. Sixty‐one percent of children consumed >;6 oz FJ/d. SNAP status was associated with consumption and food security was associated with availability in non‐parametric analyses; WIC was not associated with either. Controlling for caregiver ethnicity and age, ordinal logistic regressions of FJ availability (5 levels) and consumption (5 levels) on food security and SNAP were estimated. Food secure homes had more FJ available than food insecure homes (p<.05). Children in SNAP homes consumed more FJ than children in non‐SNAP homes (p<.05). In summary, a majority of children consumed more FJ than recommended. Food security and SNAP status are associated with home availability and consumption of FJ, respectively.
