Insulin resistance, characterized by reduced responsiveness to normal concentrations of insulin, is a common feature for most patients with type‐II‐diabetes mellitus. Recently, many anti‐hyperglycemic drugs have been developed, but the side effects are reported from most of those with long‐term use. Therefore, there has been a growing interest in alternative therapeutic use of herbal plants for diabetes mellitus. Increased α‐glucosidase activity is well known as a hyperglycemic factor. Therefore, we have studied the inhibitory effects of herb water extracts on α‐glucosidase.
