Faculty face special challenges in establishing and sustaining successful teaching and research careers at predominantly undergraduate institutions. One of the challenges in competing for a faculty position at a PUI is understanding the nature of faculty expectations and workload, and avoiding stereotypes when applying. In this session, ten “myths” concerning faculty careers at a PUI will be used as a springboard for discussion to help participants better understand the PUI career environment, and help participants increase their marketability to PUIs. Topics to be discussed will include professional training, faculty workload and expectations, and adapting research to the PUI environment.
