Korean diet is well known as healthy food. However, there are few studies on the index to assess Korean dietary pattern. This study intends to develop Korean dietary pattern score and apply it to Koreans. The KDPS was developed using the total sum of the scores of 13 components, and each component scores up to 10 points reaching 140 points in total. Exceptionally, a bap component was given 2 times of weight considering the position and importance in the Korean diet. The KDPS consists of the Korean‐Style Meal Score(KSMS) and Food Group Score(FGS). The KSMS assessed by the dietary balance based on the 3‐Chup Bansang(traditional Korean meal patterm). The FGS measured one's degree of compliance with the 6 major food groups intake. As the result of analyzing the relation between the social‐economic factors and KDPS, gender, age, smoking status and BMI are shown to be the meaningful predictors of the KDPS. When the KSMS and disease risk degree were evaluated, higher KSMS dropped the central obesity(p<0.05) and hypertension(p<0.05). Therefore, the higher total of KDPS and KSMS means more traditional Korean diet pattern and the lower risk of disease. In conclusion, it is expected to be conducive for judging the nation's diet pattern, nutrition and health status. In the future project, this study can be extended to develop the score for assessing health implication of Korean diet pattern like Mediterranean dietary pattern.
