The effects of Cheonggukjang (Korean traditional fermented soybean soup) and Cheonggukjang added with Job's tears were investigated on fecal weight, body fat, lipid metabolism and anticoagulation activities in rats fed with high fat diet for 5 weeks. Five treatment groups(n=10/group) were randomly assigned into high fat diet group(A, D12492 , 45kcal fat), high fat diet + 10%(B) and 20%(C) of Cheonggukjang powder, high fat diet +10%(D) and 20%(E) of Cheonggukjang powder added with Job's tears mixture (1:4, w/w), respectively. Body weight gain of group B was decreased by 6.0% compared to the control. RFP and EFP weights of group C were decreased by 17.6% and 16.1%, whereas BAT weight was significantly increased compared to the control(p<0.05). The fecal weight was higher in groups B and C than in the control. Also, fecal TG level in all the supplemented diet groups was significantly increased compared to the control(p<0.05). Serum TG level was significantly lower than in groups C and D than in the control(p<0.05). The bleeding time of group A and prothrombin time(PTT) of B group tended to increase compared to the control. From the findings, Cheonggukjang and also its diet added with Job's tears seemed to be effective in improving lipid metabolism and anticoagulation activity in rats.
