The purpose of this cross‐sectional study was to investigate effects of internet game addiction on health‐related lifestyle of Korean elementary school students for prevention and treatment of internet game addiction. A self‐reported questionnaire was used and the subject was 395 elementary school students (200 boys and 195 girls from 4 th to 6 th grade) in Incheon, Korea. Data were analyzed using the Window for SPSS/PC Version 12.0. As for internet usage characteristics, 184 students (46.6%) used the internet in their own room and 239 students (60.5%) used the internet for less than 1 hour per day. As for internet access purposes, 127 students (32.2%) answered ‘entertainment and gaming’. Also 252 students (63.8%) answered ‘so‐so’ as for their parents' attitude toward their internet use. There was a significantly negative correlation among internet use time, anthropometric measurements, self‐reported health status, and health‐related lifestyle such as exercise hours. Therefore, proper guidance and care for prevention and treatment of internet game addiction are necessary for Korean elementary school students at school as well as home.
