This study assessed the relationship between physical activity (PA) and Self‐Rated Health (SRH) in tri‐ethnic population with and without T2D. A cross‐sectional study was conducted in Cuban (CA=263), Haitian (HA=222) and African Americans (AA=199) with and without T2D. Participants were recruited from multiple sources from Miami‐Dade and Broward Counties, Florida. Socio‐demographic characteristics and SRH information were collected. Levels of leisure and occupational physical activities were assessed using the Modifiable Activity Questionnaire (MAQ) and metabolic equivalents (MET/week) scores were calculated. All analyses used SPSS version 18 and included descriptive statistics and analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). PA was log transferred to achieve normality. SRH was significantly different across ethnicities (p<.001) and diabetes status (p< .001). SRH was significantly associated with logPA (p< .001). After controlling for confounding variables, the interaction between ethnicity and SRH was significantly associated with logPA (p= .019). Findings supported the positive relationship between PA and SRH, and provided a better understanding of ethnic differences. Funding for this research was provided through an NIH/NIDDK sponsored grant.
