In order to investigate correlations among dietary behavior, dietary self‐efficacy and nutrition knowledge score in Korean elementary school students by residential area, this cross‐sectional survey was conducted using a questionnaire. The subject of study was 597 the 5th and 6th grade elementary school students (297 boys and 300 girls) in Incheon, Korea. Data were analyzed with SPSS 12.0 program. The urban students whose fathers were better educated scored significantly higher on dietary behavior. The students whose dietary habit was under the guidance of parents scored significantly higher on dietary behavior compared to those whose dietary habit was under the guidance of school. The rural students whose parents were better educated scored significantly higher on dietary self‐efficacy. The students whose dietary habit was under the guidance of parents had significantly better dietary self‐efficacy compared to those whose dietary habit was under the guidance of school. The urban students showed significantly higher nutrition knowledge scores compared to the rural students. The rural students whose parents were better educated showed significantly higher nutrition knowledge scores. There was a significantly positive correlation among dietary behavior, dietary self‐efficacy and nutrition knowledge score. There was a significantly positive correlation between dietary behavior and dietary self‐efficacy, between dietary behavior and nutrition knowledge score, and between dietary self‐efficacy and nutrition knowledge score. As the result of multiple regression analysis, it was shown that higher dietary self‐efficacy and nutrition knowledge scores significantly led to better dietary behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to develop nutrition education program based on residential area.
