The need to expand and integrate basic science education into clinical training in a meaningful manner has been the focus of curricular modification for several years. To provide relevant conceptual and experiential activities for 4th year students, an 80 hr online, clinical pharmacology elective was developed to: revisit basic principles of pharmacology in a clinically relevant manner; remind students of important concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics; enhance student understanding of important drug classes and special pharmacologic considerations; and present information not found in basic medical pharmacology courses. Content is based on Clinical Pharmacology objectives developed by AMSPC. Modules were developed using SoftChalk and delivered via Blackboard. Student enrollment has grown each year(24%‐>50%). Post‐course surveys indicate strong acceptance of the course, with all responding students rating the experience positive or very positive. In conclusion, it is apparent that the course provides a positive way to incorporate basic science concepts into clinical training. Students are eager for ways to better understand scientific concepts underlying clinical decisions and they will actively participate in learning activities that enhance this understanding.
