Science is a process full of ups and downs. It requires passion, hard work, perseverance and support. A collaborative environment goes a long way in providing a venue for creativity and it can be a powerful means of support among laboratory members. Full sharing of ideas and resources within a group brings students and postdocs together and the best from each individual's experience; avoids threatening feelings that may hamper research and sap mental energy from those involved; and creates a fun working atmosphere of trust, learning and discovery. This talk will focus on strategies for fostering open collaboration within a laboratory group working in common problems and exploring together the wonders of scientific discovery.
