The purpose of this study was to investigate metabolic risk of obese middle school students by using the results of 500 middle school students’(female : 173, male : 327) periodical physical examination and biological data for 3 years(2003–2005). The prevalence of obesity degree(mild obesity, moderate obesity and severe obesity) was 6.3%, 5.9% and 1.2% in males and 5.1%, 2.9% and 0.3% in females, respectively. Male students showed that cholesterol and blood glucose had significantly difference in systolic blood pressure female, diastolic blood pressure and blood glucose. The prevalence of chronic disease among obese students was 30.9%, which consists of hypertension(3.8%), hypercholesterolemia(26.3%) and hyperglycemia(0.8%). As BMI was higher, fitness score was significantly lower in both males and females. Physical diagnostic test showed that as BMI was higher, the risk of disease was higher. I Therefore this study found that metabolic risk of obese middle school students were very high and the difference between males and females.
