The validity of herbal prescriptions has been widely accepted by the scientific medical establishment, and their use has been increasing. In this study, we examined the antioxidant capacity of the extracts from new herbal formula(NHF; sprout buckwheat, Chrysanthemum indicum L., Akebia caulis., lxeris dentate Nakai, Plantago asiatica L., Sasamorpha purpurascens(Hackel) Nakai var. borealis(Hackel) Nakai., Oenanthe stolonifera DC.) in vitro using DPPH free radical scavenging assay, reducing power assay, total phenolic compounds, and total flavonoid contents. At the water extract, yield, DPPH, total phenolic compounds, total flavonoid, and reducing power in the extract of NHF were 45.14%, 81.35%, 5.47 mg/mL 2.21 mg/mL and 1.08 mg/mL, respectively. This study demonstrated that NHF extract has significant antioxidant properties.
