This study was carried out to find the difference in the growth by the obesity index at 6 th grade. Height and weight of 141 students were collected from the school record. Other information was surveyed using the questionnaire. By using their height and weight and 50 percentile of Korean Growth Chart, WLI(Weight Length Index) was calculated. The subjects were classified into three groups, underweight(under 90%, N=57, UG), normal(between 90~110%, N=53, NG), and obese group(over 110%, N=31, OG). Difference of weight, height, and growth velocity were compared among three groups from 1 st year to 6 th grade. The results were as follow; In the case of the growth, the past physical constitution of three groups was maintained up to now. Over 50% of OG belonged in overweight range from 3rd to 5th grades. Around 60% of NG was normal weight range between 1 st to 5 th grades, Over 70% of UG was in underweight range to 5 th from 1 st grades(p<0.001). Growth velocity was faster in OG than NG and UG(p<0.001). Annual growth rate of children was the highest between from 3 rd to 4 th and from 5 th to 6 th (p<0.001). Some differences among three groups by the obesity index were deducted as above. Therefore, nutrition education should be implemented at lower grade, since physical growth inclination formed in lower grades tends to maintain to senior grades.
