Here we report on the appearance of a sagittal suture in the parasagittal plane and of a bregmatic bony ossicle in a patient after surgical intervention for nonsyndromic sagittal synostosis. This case study gives insight into the role of biomechanical forces on cranial suture location and orientation with respect to secondary ossification centers. We suggest the possibility that the surgical intervention adjusted biomechanical forces and allowed the activation of ossification at the bregmatic point within the coronal suture. We also suggest that the formation of a sagittal suture where there was not one previously may be due to unequal biomechanical forces acting on the cranial vault and allowing the formation of a suture in a region not associated with the underlying dura mater that induced the original synostosis.
