This study investigates the effects of binge drinking on pulmonary inflammation in CRA‐induced murine asthma. Outbred mice were immunized intratracheally with CRA and challenged 2 times (Day 14 and 21). On Day 21 the Ethanol and Water groups were given 300μl of 32% ethanol or water by oral gavage 30 minutes prior to final challenge (FC). Blood ethanol levels peaked 1 hour post‐gavage (0.13%) and were undetectable by 5 hours. At 1.5 hours post‐FC, acute alcohol consumption led to an increase in bronchoalveolar lavage absolute cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, eotaxin‐1, RANTES, KC, and MIP‐2, and an increase in plasma IgE levels. At 5.5 hours post‐FC AHR exacerbation was measured by increases in enhanced pause (PenH) and time of inspiration (Ti), and decreases in minute ventilation (MV) and peak inspiratory flow (PIF).
