Nutritional interventions can greatly reduce disease burden and mortality throughout the world. Physicians' lack of knowledge and practical skills limits the potential of this simple therapeutic tool. We are generating online instructional modules that give physicians the critical knowledge and skills for nutritional disease prevention and treatment of conditions known to respond to dietary measures. The presentation is modeled after our widely used Nutrition in Medicine curriculum, using interactions, case studies, and quizzes. The modules describe assessment procedures and therapeutic prescriptions in detail, translating guidelines into actionable practice. The instructional design is tightly focused on assured retention with adaptive remediation. Interactive case studies and skill‐building exercises reinforce the instruction. These interactions serve an additional innovative function of competency assessment by replacing traditional exam questions. Self‐contained, brief units build the instructional paradigm. Designed for busy practitioners, individual modules take only 5–15 minutes to complete. The goal is to prepare learners to immediately use the newly learned skills with their patients. A constantly growing number of modules is available online ( nutritioninmedicine.org ) without charge for all physicians in training. Supported by a grant from the National Cancer Institute.
